THE SCIENTIFIC QUESTIONS BEING STUDIED
• To what extent are current mood symptoms (depression, mania, and anxiety) associated with gambling severity in individuals with bipolar disorder?
• Do Negative Urgency and Maladaptive Perfectionism explain unique variance in gambling severity after controlling for current mood symptoms?
• Do Negative Urgency and Maladaptive Perfectionism interact in their association with gambling severity?
• Does bullying victimisation predict current anxiety and mood symptoms severity in individuals with bipolar disorder, and does this differ from broader childhood trauma?
• Does bullying victimisation predict maladaptive self-evaluative processes (self-compassion, self-esteem, dysfunctional attitudes) in bipolar disorder?
• Is competitiveness higher in individuals with bipolar disorder compared to a control group?
• Is competitiveness linked to mood symptom severity in bipolar disorder?
• Is extraversion higher in individuals with bipolar disorder compared to a control group?
• Is extraversion linked to mood symptom severity in bipolar disorder?
• How does the relationship between competitiveness and facets of extraversion differ between individuals with bipolar disorder and a control group?
WHO CAN TAKE PART IN THE STUDY?
18 years or over, report having received a formal diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder (Type I, Type II or not specified), be able to provide informed consent, have sufficient English to complete questionnaires.
WHAT DOES THIS STUDY REQUIRE OF PARTICIPANTS?
Completing a questionnaire that takes approximately 45 minutes.
WILL PARTICIPANTS BE COMPENSATED?
There is no compensation for participation.
This study is being conducted by Tugsem Sakarya, Janaya Thorpe and Gabriella Goodale, and supervised by Dr. Thomas Richardson at University of Southampton.
